A new initiative called DOTS treatment was launched in 1993, the DOTS program has shown continued impressive success rates. DOTS treatment comprises of identifying a respected member of the TB sufferers community to administrate the anti-tb drug, that might be the sufferers neighbour, priest , tribal leader or family member and are given the title of DOTS Provider. The DOTS providers job is to make sure tablets are orally taken twice a day. The administrator of the drug is given responsibility for the full course of treatment and is always present when the drug is taken. This helps to stop new resistant strains of TB which in comparison are very expensive to fight.
